A staple of the NFL season, Thursday Night Football has provided us with some excellent matchups in 2020. However, with today being Christmas Eve, is there an NFL Thursday Night Football game tonight?
Unfortunately, football fans will need to wait another day for their favorite pastime to grace our televisions. Unlike two separate occasions this year where Thursday Night Football needed to be canceled or rescheduled to later in the week, this time around, the lack of a game is by design.
With the holiday season kicking off, the NFL decided to have both a Friday NFL game and a tripleheader on Saturday.
NFL dips into the NBA’s usual territory
In an interesting turn of events, the Christmas Day football game will be one of the first times that the NFL attempts to compete with the NBA on the 25th. With the afternoon showdown between the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints taking place on Christmas Day, two of America’s favorite sports will be going head-to-head competing for ratings.

Then, all day Saturday, we will have NFL football.
The first matchup is between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going up against the Detroit Lions, where the Buccaneers look to lock up a playoff spot. Then, the San Francisco 49ers head to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. Lastly, we finish the day with the Miami Dolphins taking on the Las Vegas Raiders. The Dolphins will need to pull out a victory if they want to continue to hold on to the last wild card berth in the AFC.
This means that last week’s thrilling game between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders was the last Thursday game of the NFL season. Luckily, we were able to take in one more exciting game as those two teams went to overtime before the Chargers won 30-27.
