JACKSON – It wasn’t the season anyone expected but we still enjoyed nine weeks of high school football action this fall.
The modified schedule gave standout performers from across Michigan the opportunity to showcase their talents and make their case for all-state honors. The Associated Press recently released its 2020 All-State teams for Divisions 1-8, as well as the two 8-player divisions, and 30 Jackson-area athletes made the cut.
Here’s a look at all the local athletes who earned all-state honors in Divisions 1-8 after tremendous seasons this fall.
FIRST-TEAM
Josh Sherwood, Grass Lake
The senior wideout for the Warriors hauled in 38 receptions for 661 yards and six touchdowns this fall and was a pivotal force as a run blocker on the perimeter in Grass Lake’s aerial attack. He was named first team All-Cascades Conference and first team All-State and All-Region in Division 7 by the MHSFCA.
Damaso Lebron, Homer
The senior wideout for the Trojans caught 38 passes for 616 yards and 10 touchdowns and added three rushes for 30 yards and one touchdown in seven games this fall. The speedy playmaker was a threat to score every time he touched the ball and was a nightmare for opposing defenses to gameplan for. He was named first team all-conference in the Big Eight and All-Region in Division 7 by the MHSFCA.
Nicholas Trumble, Addison
The junior linebacker recorded 71 tackles (55 solo), four sacks, 24 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass break-ups in seven games.

SECOND-TEAM
Dorion Riley, Jackson
The 5-foot-7, 194-pound tailback for the Vikings rushed for 1,726 yards and 23 touchdowns in just six games this fall. The future Ferris State Bulldogs was named second team All-State in Divisions 1-2 and was the MLive Jackson Offensive Player of the Year this season after setting the Jackson High all-time leading rusher with 3,615 yards, which broke the former high-water mark set by Shonte Suddeth in 2017.
Cameron Keller, Jonesville
The 5-foot-10, 280-pound lineman anchored a Jonesville offense that bludgeoned opposing defenses in the run game and rushed for more than 3,000 yards this fall. The three-year starter was named first team all-conference in the Big Eight.
Logan Horn, Hillsdale
The 6-foot-3, 263-pound lineman anchored an offense for the Hornets that rushed for 1,725 yards and 21 touchdowns and averaged 5.9 yards per carry. He was selected first team all-conference in the LCAA and first team All-State and All-Region in Division 5 by the MHSFCA.
Lowyind Pullen, Homer
The senior wideout caught 20 passes for 652 yards and 10 touchdowns this season.

HONORABLE MENTION
Carson Farley, Grass Lake
The senior team captain completed 63 percent (117-of-188) of his passes for 1,832 yards and 19 touchdowns this fall, as he helped engineer a Grass Lake offense that averaged 36 points per game. He was named first team All-Cascades Conference, as well as All-Region in Division 7 by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association.
Dave Whitehead, Leslie
The junior tailback rushed for 668 yards and nine touchdowns on 87 carries and caught five passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. On defense, Whitehead led the Blackhawks in tackles with 72 total stops and added one tackle for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery.
Nathan Rodlund, Addison
Rodlund rushed for 767 yards and 14 touchdowns on 83 attempts for an average of 9.2 yards per carry in just seven games. He ended his prep career top three in Addison football history for points scored in a career and was selected first team All-Cascades Conference and All-Region in Division 8 by the MHSFCA.
Dylan Malinowski, Addison
The senior tailback rushed for 818 yards and 12 touchdowns on 58 attempts for a 14.1 yards per carry average.
Trenton Holden, Grass Lake
The senior tailback for the Warriors rushed for 765 yards and 12 touchdowns on 90 carries in six games this year. As a defensive end, Holden recorded 58 tackles (46 solo), including eight tackles for loss and five sacks.
Jayson Roy, Jackson
The 6-foot-2, 290-pound lineman was a driving force in the Jackson offense rushing for more than 2,000 yards in seven games. The three-year starter used his power and agility to open up running lanes for Player of the Year candidate Dorion Riley and was named first team all-conference in the SEC White.
Xemines Willis, Jackson Lumen Christi
The junior offensive lineman anchored a Titan rushing attack that rushed for more than 2,000 yards this season and was named first team all-conference in the Interstate Eight.
Nic Carey, Leslie
The senior defensive lineman recorded 47 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. He was selected first team all-conference in the GLAC and was an all-region selection.
Jack Burmis, Hanover-Horton
The senior offensive lineman anchored an offensive unit for the Comets that gained more than 2,400 total yards this season and averaged 34 points per game. On defense, Burmis recorded 47 tackles, seven sacks, 15 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. He finished first team All-Conference in the GLAC and All-Region by the MHSFCA.
Isaiah Simon, Grass Lake
The senior lineman helped anchor an offensive unit that rushed for 1,500 yards and passed for nearly 2,500 yards. The Warrior have gone a combined 22-7 in the past three seasons under Simon’s leadership in the trenches.
Kobe Farrow, Addison
The tight end for the Panthers was primarily used as a blocking specialist in Addison’s Full House T offense due to his strength at the point of attack but he also used his athleticism to haul in four receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, the junior playmaker finished with 36 total tackles, including 15 solo stops, to go along with 7.5 sacks and 24 tackles for loss. He was named first team All-Cascades Conference and first team All-State and All-Region in Division 8 by the MHSFCA.
Brody Dalton, Jackson Lumen Christi
The senior linebacker recorded 60 total tackles (33 solo), 1.5 sacks and one fumble recovery this season. He was named first team all-conference in the Interstate Eight and all-region.
Trent Hocter, Hanover-Horton
The senior tailback rushed for 992 yards and 16 touchdowns on 116 carries (8.6 average per carry) and caught six passes for 100 yards and one touchdown and was 1-for-1 passing for 53 yards and one touchdown. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 342 points scored and second in rushing with 2,599 yards.
As a kicker, Hocter made 22-of-23 extra points and was 1-of-2 on field goal attempts. As a punter, Hocter recorded an average of 36.1 yards per punt on 21 attempts.
Landon French, Parma Western
The senior wideout for the Panthers hauled in 21 receptions for 466 yards and seven touchdowns as the team’s primary target in the passing game. He finished his career with school records for receiving touchdowns in a season (13 in 2019) and career touchdowns (22).
Cal Sharp, Parma Western
The senior lineman recorded a 90 percent blocking efficiency grade on offense and added 41 total tackles, including six tackles for loss as a defensive lineman.
Michael McAninch, Parma Western
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman for the Panthers was a dominant blocker in both the run game and in pass protection, grading out with a 90-percent grade. The three-year starter and future Air Force Falcon helped Western a 21-8 record and was selected first team All-Conference in the Interstate Eight and first team All-State and All-Region in Division 3 by the MHSFCA.
Bode Brown, Parma Western
The senior linebacker recorded 59 total tackles this fall and finished his career with 256 total tackles in three seasons as a varsity starter.
Kaydin Hiland, Michigan Center
The junior tailback rushed for 607 yards and eight touchdowns on 60 carries and added 12 receptions for 212 yards and four touchdowns for a combined 78 points scored (11.1 average per game).
Brock Woodard, Hillsdale
The senior tailback rushed for 766 yards and five touchdowns and was the leading receiver for the Hornets this fall. He also doubled as the team’s leading tackler on defense from his defensive back position. He is a two-time all-conference selection and was named to the MHSFCA all-region team this year.
Garrett Eggleston, Jonesville
The senior tailback rushed for 885 yards scored nine touchdowns and added 13 2-point conversion runs.
Jeremy Pilch, Stockbridge
The junior wideout caught 26 passes for 690 yards and 10 touchdowns this season and also rushed for 76 yards on seven carries. On defense, he recorded 24 tackles, three interceptions and returned two for touchdowns.
Kevin Roberts, Michigan Center
The senior guard anchored a Michigan Center offense line that helped the Cardinals rush for 1,405 yards in seven games and pass for 921 yards on their way to its first district championship in school history. On defense, Roberts made 49 tackles, including 11 tackles for loss, four sacks and one pass deflection from his defensive end position.
Ethan Emerson, Brooklyn Columbia Central
The senior safety recorded 32 tackles, five forced fumbles and six pass break-ups. He was selected first team all-conference in the LCAA.
