It seems appropriate that the Michigan Associated Press has released its Division 1-2 All-State team on Christmas Day.
The players highlighted below have been a gift to their teams throughout a challenging 2020 season.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Brady Rose, Muskegon Mona Shores, Sr.
Rose has helped spearhead the defending Division 2 state champions to a 9-0 record. Rose, who also earned MLive Player of the Year honors, stars at quarterback and has rushed for 919 yards on 112 carries and 17 touchdowns. He has completed 48-of-73 passes for 908 yards and 10 scores. Rose also plays free safety and has 54 tackles and four interceptions, including two that he returned for touchdowns. He is averaging 34.8 yards per punt, including one for 53 yards.

FIRST-TEAM ALL-STATE
QUARTERBACKS
Christian Dhue-Reid, Belleville, Sr.
Dhue-Reid is completing 71.3 percent of his passes (132-of-165), and he has thrown for 2,286 yards and 37 touchdowns against one touchdown. He holds Michigan’s state career record for touchdown passes with 132. Belleville is 9-0.
Brendan Sullivan, Davison, Sr.
Sullivan is 57-of-89 for 1,012 yards and 10 touchdowns against two interceptions. Sullivan, who rarely played in the second half because 9-0 Davison has had so many blowouts, has rushed for 282 yards on 45 carries and seven scores. He was first-team All-State last year, helping Davison win the Division 1 state title.

RUNNING BACKS
Donovan Edwards, West Bloomfield, Sr.
The University of Michigan commit has rushed for 1,021 yards and 17 touchdowns, and he has 153 yards in receptions and three touchdown catches for West Bloomfield, which is 8-1. Edwards was an MLive Player of the Year finalist.
Cam’ron Burford, Stoney Creek, Sr.
Burford rushed for 1,692 yards and 20 touchdowns during Stoney Creek’s 7-1 season, which ended with a loss to Romeo in the district finals. Burford averaged over 200 yards per game and 7.3 yards per carry. He also caught a pair of touchdowns, and he threw for two more.

Caden Woodall, Livonia Stevenson, Sr.
Woodall, who has committed to Harvard, averaged over 278 yards in eight games against opponents like Belleville, Dearborn Fordson, Livonia Franklin and Livonia Churchill. He finished with 2,228 yards on 186 carries and 34 touchdowns in eight games.
Anthony Tyus III, Portage Northern, Sr.
Tyus, a Northwestern commit, rushed for 1,801 yards on 174 carries and 22 touchdowns for 7-2 Portage Northern. He also had 18 catches for 253 yards and a score, and on defense, he had 54 tackles (5.5 for loss), two interceptions, one sack, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and two defensive touchdowns.

WIDE RECEIVERS
Andrel Anthony Jr., East Lansing, Sr.
The University of Michigan commit has 31 catches for 564 yards and four touchdowns in seven games for 8-0 East Lansing. Anthony also has returned a punt for a touchdown.

Blake Bosma, West Ottawa, Sr.
Bosma recorded 80 catches for more than 900 yards and nine touchdowns in six games for the Panthers. Bosma also had over 1,200 yards in total offense, and he recorded 25 tackles.
Antonio Gates Jr., Dearborn Fordson, Jr.
Gates had 25 receptions for 575 yards and seven touchdowns for Fordson in eight games. He holds multiple Division I offers, including Michigan State, Cincinnati, Iowa State and Penn State.

Lamont Parks, Detroit Western, Jr.
Parks helped lead the Cowboys to a 5-2 record. Parks had 63 catches for 734 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Deion Burks, Belleville, Sr.
Burks has 30 catches for 626 yards and six touchdowns for the 9-0 Tigers. Burks has committed to Purdue.

LINEMEN
Damon Payne, Belleville, Sr.
The Alabama commit stars at defensive tackle for Belleville. He has helped key a defense that has recorded five shutouts and given up 72 points through nine games.

Raheem Anderson, Detroit Cass Tech, Sr.
Anderson is Cass Tech’s first four-year starter on the team’s offensive line. He will play at Michigan next year. Cass Tech, 9-0, is averaging 41.5 points.

Rocco Spindler, Clarkston, Sr.
Spindler, a four-star offensive lineman, has committed to Notre Dame. Spindler is the third-best player in Michigan according to the 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Garrett Dellinger, Clarkston, Sr.
Dellinger, who has committed to Louisiana State University, is an all-state player for the second consecutive year after starring on Clarkston’s offensive and defensive lines.

Rayshaun Benny, Oak Park, Sr.
Benny has four sacks, 29 tackles and 10 tackles for loss in four games, and he hasn’t allowed a sack on Oak Park’s offensive line. He has committed to Michigan State.

Giovanni El-Hadi, Sterling Heights Stevenson, Sr.
El-Hadi helped the Titans win a share of the MAC Red Division championship and a 7-2 record. He plans to enroll at Michigan in January.

Harry Unger, Davison, Sr.
Unger was the catalyst on a defense that allowed 66 points in nine games (7.3 average) and held seven of nine opponents to eight points or fewer. He will play at Air Force next year.

Josh Thompson, Fenton, Sr.
The Northwestern commit had 61 pancake blocks in eight games for the Tigers, who finished 7-1 overall. He did not allow a sack the entire season.

LINEBACKERS
Josh Burnham, Traverse City Central, Jr.
A second-team all-state player last year, Burnham has several Division I offers, including Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Iowa and Wisconsin. He also played quarterback and threw for 1,145 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 833 yards 13 scores.
Austin Roon, Byron Center, Sr.
Roon was the MLive Grand Rapids Dream Player of the Year after helping the Bulldogs win a share of the OK White title. The Syracuse University commit finished the season with 33 tackles and four tackles for loss.

Tyler Stolsky, Portage Central, Jr.
Stolsky recorded 134 tackles, including 79 solos, for the Mustangs in seven games. He also had 17 tackles for loss, six sacks, four forced fumbles and recovered two fumbles. He has offers from Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

Kobe King, Detroit Cass Tech, Sr.
The Penn State-bound King has 95 tackles, including 12 tackles for loss on a 9-0 Cass Tech team. He also has rushed for 784 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Jamari Buddin, Belleville, Sr.
Buddin has 55 tackles and 10 tackles for loss, helping Belleville advance to regionals with a 9-0 record. He will play next year at Penn State.

DEFENSIVE BACKS
Christian Boivin, Traverse City West, Sr.
Boivin, who earned first-team all-state honors at linebacker last year, had three interceptions and 14 tackles, including 13 solos for the 6-2 Titans. He also rushed for 221 yards and two touchdowns and blocked a punt.
Sam Dersa, Detroit Catholic Central, Sr.
Dersa has 27 tackles, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries for a 9-0 Shamrocks team that has allowed 81 points in nine games. He also has 21 catches for 352 yards and five touchdowns.
Kalen King, Detroit Cass Tech, Sr.
King, who has committed to Penn State, has recorded four interceptions. He also plays receiver and returns kicks, and he has scored 10 touchdowns.

Will Johnson, Grosse Pointe South, Jr.
Johnson was a shutdown corner for a 4-3 Blue Devils team. He holds over 30 offers, including including Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, LSU and Michigan.

Myles Rowser, Belleville, Jr.
Rowser has recorded 52 tackles and eight pass breakups for Belleville. His list of offers include Alabama, Notre Dame and Michigan.

Peluso made 7-of-10 field goal attempts, including a season-long 41. He also had 22 touchbacks out of 30 total kickoffs, and he averaged 33.88 yards over 32 punts, including a 67-yarder. He is a preferred walk-on at Central Michigan.
PUNTER
Evan Sundermann, East Lansing, Jr.
Sundermann, who is ranked one of the nation’s top punters by Chris Sailer, is averaging 43.7 yards per punt. East Lansing will play Mona Shores in the regionals.
COACH
Nick Merlo, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek
Merlo, a third-year coach, led Stoney Creek to its first playoff win in program history, a 28-21 victory against Chippewa Valley in the district semifinal after getting a bye in the opening round. The Cougars went 6-0 in the regular season, with five wins over teams that had playoff victories. Stoney Creek lost to Romeo in the district finals.
