The amazing thing was that it took the ESPN Monday Night Football crew more than a quarter to address the dumpster fire in green uniforms, with the rip job likely brought on by a ridiculous Jalen Hurts yo-yo.
Hurts, the Eagles backup quarterback inserted as a solo act for the first time this season, completed a pass to wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey in the second quarter, only to be yanked for the next play.
Hurts then watched from the sideline as Carson Wentz was sacked by the Seattle Seahawks -- as every Eagles fan screamed at their TVs, laptops, tablets and phones. This offensive ineptitude -- and the inability after months to devise a plan for Hurts -- is what they’ve been watching for 11 games.
That silly series seemed to light the fuse. When the broadcast returned from a commercial break a few minutes later, analysts Louis Riddick and Brian Griese were ready. And with the camera trained on general manager Howie Roseman as he stood masked-up in a box above Lincoln Financial Field, they went off.

Riddick, the former front-office exec, explained the cap problems presented by Wentz’s contract, which, play-by-play guy Steve Levy pointed out, was the front office’s fault. Griese, the former quarterback, then threw a stink bomb into Roseman’s office for not, well, helping the struggling quarterback.
“There’s a lot of money that’s been invested in Carson Wentz,” Riddick said. “A lot of money was guaranteed to him at signing. With the 2021 salary cap expected to go down, it would be very cost prohibitive for him to be cut after the 2020 season. … Carson Wentz will be here. They don’t want to pull the plug on him, they want to get him playing better. They need to get more people around him.”
Griese, however, went for Roseman’s jugular.
“They’ve got to get more players around him,” he said. “They’ve got to get more protection up front. This was the best offensive line in football when they won the Super Bowl (in the 2017 season). Well, (tackle) Lane Johnson is hurt. He’s not the same guy. Neither is (tackle) Jason Peters. (Guard) Brandon Brooks has been hurt.
“They haven’t drafted a wide receiver that’s contributed. They drafted three wide receivers, (GM) Howie Roseman did, this off-season, and none of them has contributed in any meaningful way. So, they have got to be better in the front office. They’ve got to find more talent, so this offense can be built around Carson Wentz.”
The Eagles, with a Wentz TD pass to tight end Dallas Goedert late in the second quarter, trailed 14-6 at halftime, despite having only 74 yards of offense. Wentz was 7-for-17 for 30 yards. In 10 plays in the first quarter, the Eagles had minus-4 yards of offense.
