Tonight, the NFL wraps up week nine with a thrilling divisional matchup, pitting two teams with top-five drafted quarterbacks and seven combined Super Bowl wins between them against one another on national television.
All of that is true, except for perhaps the “thrilling” adjective. That is because this game features teams with a combined 2-13 record in 2020. The winless New York Jets, behind Sam Darnold, look to be on a clear course to the top overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, where they will almost certainly select Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence to replace Darnold. Meanwhile, the New England Patriots — owners of six of the seven Lombardi Trophies these two teams have — are having a rough go in their first post-Tom Brady season.
Another time, perhaps ten years ago, this game would rightfully be a must-watch matchup. Instead, perhaps the best thing we can say to convince anyone besides die-hard fans of these to teams to watch this game is “Well, it will theoretically be football.”
So if you are indeed tuning in, join us here at Acme Packing Company to follow along with the game.
