The contrast between the Packers and Bears couldn't have been more stark through three quarters on "Sunday Night Football," as Green Bay went on to win 41-25.
First, there's quarterback play. Aaron Rodgers tossed a touchdown on each of Green Bay's three possessions in the first half and added another in the third quarter to give himself four on the night. Meanwhile, Mitch Trubisky led Chicago to a field goal on its opening drive, but followed it up with an interception and a lost fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown for the Packers. He did manage to lead a touchdown drive to end the first half, hitting Allen Robinson for a 1-yard score. But he tacked on another interception in the third quarter to finish the night with three turnovers.
Speaking of turnovers, let's look at those defenses. Green Bay defensive back Darnell Savage came up with both interceptions, one coming on a deep ball by Trubisky towards the end zone. The Smith brothers also came up big for the Packers' D, with Za'Darius Smith stripping Trubisky and Preston Smith getting the scoop-and-score TD. On the other side, Chicago's vaunted defense gave up a season-worst 34 points to the Green Bay offense. The Bears' pass rush, normally led by Khalil Mack, couldn't even manage a single hit on Rodgers the entire game.
Trubisky somewhat managed to save face in garbage time, tacking on a pair of passing TDs to Robinson and David Montgomery, along with a 2-point conversion to Darnell Mooney to make it a two-score game. The final line for the former No. 2 overall pick: 26-of-46 passing (56.5 percent) for 242 yards and three touchdowns. But those three turnovers all led to Green Bay touchdowns and proved too much to overcome.
Rodgers, on the other hand, was much more efficient, completing 21 of 29 passes (72.4 percent) for 211 yards and four TDs to four different receivers. And he probably could have put up much bigger numbers if Green Bay had continued to air it out in the second half, but the game was already won.
The Packers (8-3) extend their lead atop the NFC North by three games. The Bears (5-6) have now lost five-straight and fall into a tie for second in the division with the Vikings. Both Chicago and Minnesota are a game back of the Cardinals for the final Wild Card spot.
