Utica football season opener reportedly canceled, team in COVID-19 quarantine - Detroit Free Press

The Utica High School football team will not be taking the field this weekend as the MHSAA begins the season.

According to the Macomb Daily, Utica was scheduled to play Macomb Twp. L'Anse Creuse North, but the school's athletic director, Karyn Holmes said that the team "is on a COVID quarantine."

Holmes told the Macomb Daily the team will resume practice on Wednesday, but that they will not play on Friday.

L'Anse Creuse North will instead host Birmingham Detroit Country Day at 7 p.m. Friday.

Utica's next game, against New Baltimore Anchor Bay on Sept. 25, has not been postponed, according to Utica Community Schools athletic director Rob Dilday.

The MHSAA announced the restart the football season two weeks ago. All players, coaches and on-field personnel must wear masks at all times.
