Tennessee redshirt sophomore Brandon Davis suffered a gunshot wound to his leg over the weekend following a late-night incident outside of a bar, according to the Knoxville News-Sentinel. Davis is recovering from non life-threatening injuries authorities indicate after he was treated at UT Medical Center.
According to reports, Davis was shot after midnight on Saturday at Uptown Bar & Grill on Cumberland Avenue. The responding officer wrote "in an incident report obtained by Knoxville News that Davis appeared to have a small-caliber gunshot wound in his upper left leg and was being assisted by several individuals."
Davis reportedly had "no idea who shot him or why." Tennessee teammate Trevon Flowers was with Davis at the time of the shooting. The University of Tennessee released an official statement on the matter, saying the player was expected to make a full recovery.
One law enforcement officer reportedly heard several people indicate that Davis may have shot himself in the leg with a small caliber bullet, according to the incident report obtained by the Knoxville News-Sentinel. Davis wrote Monday on Twitter that's not the case.
"Never touched a gun in my life," he said.
A three-star recruit rated as the No. 158 cornerback in the 2018 class per the 247Sports Composite, Davis starred at John Curtis High School in New Orleans and was named to the LFCA 5A All-State First Team as a defensive back as a senior after recording six interceptions. He redshirted in 2018 for Jeremy Pruitt before seeing duty in one game last season.
At the time of his commitment in 2018, Davis told 247Sports, "It caught my eye when I saw all the stuff they had, and they treat you like family there and it’s just like John Curtis.”
