Maryland football’s Taulia Tagovailoa and Rakim Jarrett receive weekly honors - Testudo Times

Maryland football quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and wide receiver Rakim Jarrett both earned national recognition following their performance against West Virginia on Saturday.

Tagovailoa, who performed brilliantly in the Terps’ 30-24 victory, was named as a Manning Award Star of the Week. The junior is just one of eight quarterbacks in college football to be listed on the weekly award. Tagovailoa went 26-for-36 in the passing game and racked up 332 yards and three touchdowns. It was only the second time in Tagovailoa’s career that he totaled over 300 yards in a single game, while his 26 total completed passes tied a career-high.

Jarrett, one of Maryland’s most explosive wideouts, was one of six players listed to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll. The award is given to the most versatile player in college football. The sophomore did more than enough for Maryland to secure the win last Saturday after he collected 122 yards on six catches, including a touchdown late in the game to seal the victory.

Both players were always going to be critical factors on a budding offense and the duo’s opening week performance was a positive sign moving forward for an energized Maryland team that will face Howard on Sept. 11.
