FSU football doesn’t have the long history of Notre Dame, Michigan, or other universities that have been around since forever. However, FSU hasn’t been around for half of the time but commands the respect it does because of what Bobby Bowden did in Tallahassee.
That’s why there have been celebrations of his life since he passed last month. That’s why FSU had multiple tributes to recognize his legacy Sunday night.
When FSU football is good, and they have been for the majority of the last four decades, it makes college football better. College football hasn’t been the same since FSU fell into mediocrity the last four seasons. However, the way they played Sunday night shows what FSU means to college football.
The response the Noles got from some of the members of the national media was eye-popping.

The #FSU fan base finally has reason for optimism. @Coach_Norvell has cleaned this up. Kids accountable, competed, didn’t fold their chair and go home. Lots to be excited for going forward. No moral victories, but this team has something to believe in. @FSUFootball

The former players chiming in on the performance told you all you need to know about where this football program has been the last four years. They have been the worst four years of our lifetimes, going 21-26 and getting demolished against inferior talent.
Sunday night felt different. It was different from the win over then-ranked No. 5 North Carolina last year.
That game felt somewhat flukish with how it played out. The blocked punts and interception for a touchdown by Joshua Kaindoh were huge plays, but how often will those types of plays happen?
I give full credit to the team for holding on to win that game, but we don’t want to hold on at FSU football. We want to take the win and impose our will on our opponents. That’s what FSU football has been the better part of my lifetime. That’s what we saw throughout the game Sunday night.
The Noles overcame adversity and begin to impose their will in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t enough to win the game, but it was a respectable effort against a more talented team.
It was progress, a glimpse of what FSU football needs to become consistent. Now, it’s all about getting elite talent on the roster and removing the self-inflicted mistakes. Once that happens, things will get spooky in Tallahassee once again.
