EMU Football Announces Additions To Future Schedules - EMU Eagles

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee and the football program announced multiple future season schedule additions today, July 21. In total, Eastern Michigan has agreements in place with 13 different opponents to play over the next eight seasons.

"We are pleased to announce a number of great games with quality opponents in future years," Wetherbee said. "The games provide the right schedule strength, offer a number of quality home opponents for our fans and include some high-profile road games that are in strong alumni areas and provide convenient travel for our fans."

The newest additions to future Eastern Michigan football schedules include contests with Eastern Kentucky, Georgia Southern, Howard, Liberty, Louisiana, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Washington, of which the meetings with Georgia Southern, Liberty and Louisiana will be home-and-home.

Over the past decade, EMU has reevaluated its overall non-conference scheduling philosophy for football. An emphasis was placed on securing home-and-home series with other members of the so called "Group of Five" which includes the American Athletic Conference, Conference USA, the Mountain West Conference, and the Sun Belt Conference. In addition, the Eagles will still play at least one road contest versus a "Power Five School" which includes members from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big Ten Conference, the Big 12 Conference, the Pacific 12 Conference, and the Southeastern Conference.

Eastern Kentucky will be the opponent for the 2022 season opener, as the Colonels visit Rynearson Stadium, Sept. 3. EMU then hits the road for a visit to Lafayette, La. to kickoff a series with the Ragin' Cajuns, Sept. 10. The two schools had a previous bout, with EMU winning 31-10 at home during the 2005 season before dropping a 33-14 decision in 2006.

EMU will then visit Arizona State, Sept. 17, for the program's second-ever visit to a Pac-12 institution. The 2022 schedule rounds out non-conference play with a visit by UMass, Oct. 1.

In 2023, the Eagles open the season with a visit by Howard, Sept. 2, before traveling to Huntington Bank Stadium for the first-ever meeting with Minnesota, Sept. 9. The Minutemen of UMass invade Rynearson Stadium Sept. 16, before the Eagles travel to Lynchburg, Va. to open a series with Liberty, Sept. 23.

Eastern opens 2024 at Massachusetts, Aug. 31, along with trekking to the Pacific Northwest to face the Washington Huskies, Sept. 7. EMU then returns home to host the Flames, Sept. 14, as well as a revisit from Saint Francis (Pa.), Sept. 21.

The 2025 campaign will see the Eagles open the season in San Marcos, Texas, in the finale of a home-and-home series against the Bobcats of Texas State, Aug. 30. The Ragin' Cajuns then make the trip north to Ypsilanti, Sept. 20.

During the 2026 season, Eastern Michigan and Michigan State will battle for the first time since the 2014 campaign when the Eagles travel to Spartan Stadium, Sept. 12. It will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two schools separated by just 69 miles.

EMU will also see a return trip by San Diego State, Sept. 3, 2027, as the Aztecs complete the home-and-home series after the teams battled to an overtime affair during the 2018 campaign in San Diego.

Meanwhile, the Green and White open another series versus Georgia Southern. GSU will host Eastern Michigan at Paulson Stadium in Statesboro, Ga., Sept. 25, 2027. Then on Sept. 22, 2029, the Georgia Southern will travel to Rynearson Stadium to conclude the two-game series.

GSU and EMU's only previous meeting on the gridiron came Dec. 15, 2018, in the Camellia Bowl in Montgomery, Ala. GSU's placekicker hit a 40-yard field goal as time expired to propel Georgia Southern to a 23-21 victory inside the Cramton Bowl.

EMU's non-conference schedule is listed below through 2029. The Mid-American Conference schedule is usually released each February.

With the season fast approaching, the EMU Ticket Office has announced the sale of 2021 ticket packages. EMU's schedule features six home games, with the first set to be played on Friday, Sept. 3, against Saint Francis (Pa). Visit the official ticketing page at EMUEagles.com for more information.

The Sept. 3 contest has been designated as CommUniversitE Night. An event designed to spotlight the unique relationship between the local community and the University. This is a special event where we are inviting the entire community to come out and support the football team. Pregame festivities will feature food, music, kid-friendly activities, and more. Throughout the game, Eastern Athletics will be recognizing frontline workers and celebrating our return to Rynearson Stadium.
