First, they have an outstanding defensive coordinator in Marcus Freeman, someone who is setting the team up for success not only in 2021 but also going forward.
The leader for this Notre Dame defense in the defensive backfield will be Kyle Hamilton, who is one of the best safeties in the country. He has taken the college football landscape by storm since starting for the team as a true freshman and is on the brink of being a high draft pick in 2022.
Remember, this is a program that has not had a first-round pick in two years, but all signs point to Hamilton not only ending that stretch but being one of the first names called.
Notre Dame football star lands in the Big Apple
In a recent mock draft by Oliver Hodgkinson of Pro Football Network, the Notre Dame football star lands within the top-5 picks. In fact, Hamilton lands in the Big Apple, being a No. 4 overall selection for the New York Jets and their young roster.
The Jets revamped the coaching staff this past offseason, as well as most of the roster, and this would be an excellent landing spot for Hamilton. Robert Saleh is one of the better young defensive coaches in all of football and was able to bring along some solid defensive backs during his time as the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.
New York is likely to improve from their two-win season a year ago, but not by much, which means they should be picking in the top-5 next year. If they are, adding a talent like Hamilton to a young secondary would be an outstanding get for this organization.
Hamilton is going to be expected to help this team back to the College Football Playoff and is one of the top players in the country heading into Year 3. This is likely his final season in South Bend, and with another tremendous year, landing in the top-5 is certainly not out of the question.
