Nebraska Football in good shape at wide receiver despite recent transfers - Husker Corner

Nebraska football lost two wide receivers to the transfer portal over the weekend but they’re still in decent shape moving forward.

First, Demariyon Houston announced he’d be transferring on Saturday. That was followed up by Jamie Nance also announcing his intent to transfer on Sunday. The Nebraska recruiting class from 2019 consisted of Houston, Nance, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Darien Chase, none of whom are still with the program.

Mitch Sherman of The Athletic tweeted about the wide receiver situation and the way he summed it up should make Husker fans feel better. Sherman noted that even though none of these four receivers are still in Lincoln, the program actually looks to be in decent shape moving forward. He mentions Omar Manning, Oliver Martin, and Samori Toure as the top wideouts and those are names to get excited about.

Nebraska football has turnover at wide receiver but they’re still in good shape.

The Huskers have put themselves in a good spot moving forward. Normally, losing four of the top receivers in a single class within a two-year span would crush a program, but Nebraska has three promising players at the position and, as Sherman noted, are actually in a better spot moving forward.

As for the two recent transfer announcements, it’s not really all that shocking for the Cornhuskers. Both players were with the program for two years and never really made much of an impact at all. Houston didn’t see the field at all during his two years in Lincoln while Nance rarely got meaningful playing time.

If neither of these guys could make an impact in two years despite the position being pretty shaky, that says all fans need to know right there. Robinson was the only one out of that group of players who made any kind of impact on the field and that loss will be felt, but Houston and Nance’s intent to transfer shouldn’t come as a surprise at all.

Wide receiver hasn’t been a great position for Nebraska football since Scott Frost took over but the hope is the trio mentioned above can change that. Once the wide receivers can get it going, the Huskers’ offense will be much better.
