Almost 100 former Youngstown State football players and friends of the program took part in the 2021 Ned Mervos YSU Football Alumni Golf Outing last Friday at the Youngstown Country Club.
The 2020 event was canceled so this was the first opportunity for the current YSU football coaching staff to meet some past Penguins and their friends.
Head Coach Doug Phillips spoke with the group prior to the start of the event, thanking them for their continued support and discussing the high-standing tradition that the program maintains and strives for.
The event was sponsored in part by ms consultants, inc.
The winning foursome on a beautiful and challenging day was Frank Beck, Mr. Frank Beck, Thomas Beck and Dustin Hinkle who carded a winning score of 62 for their round.
The skill prize winners were:
- Longest Drive on No. 7 (in the fairway) – Marty McCloud
- Longest Drive on No. 10 (in the fairway) – Bryan Nardo
- Longest Putt on No. 5 – Troy Rothenbuhler (18 feet)
- Longest Putt on No. 13 – Rod Morris (39 feet)
- Closet to the Pin on No. 6 - John Zelenak
- Closest to the Pin on No. 16 – John Toy
