For much of its history, Auburn has been known for running the ball and producing great running backs while the quarterback position was much more of a game manager.

That hasn’t been the case for the past 25-plus years, though, as the Tigers have had some quality passers coming through the Plains. From Patrick Nix to Jason Campbell to Cam Newton, Auburn fans have seen some exciting signal-callers put on the burnt orange and navy blue.

Yet who has had the best games of them all? Here are the top 10 passing yards by an Auburn quarterback in a single game with three quarterbacks making the list twice and one surprise omission.

10. Dameyune Craig (1996, Army)

Yards: 370

Score: Auburn 32, Army 29

Auburn had the 1996 Independence Bowl in hand with a 32-7 lead over Army going into the fourth quarter but the Black Knights fought back, scoring 22 unanswered straight. Only a missed field goal let the Tigers escape with the victory.

Craig threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score.

9. Patrick Nix (1995, Ole Miss)

Yards: 372

Score: Auburn 46, Ole Miss 13

Nix wasted no time making some noise in the 1995 season as he shredded the Rebels defense in the season opener. This was Nix’s second-highest passing yards in a game.

8. Jarrett Stidham (2018, Purdue)

Yards: 373

Score: Auburn 63, Purdue 14

Stidham and the Tigers poured it on early and often against the Boilermakers,  setting a record for most points scored in the first half of a bowl game with 56. The Auburn quarterback finished 15-of-21 with five touchdown passes while sitting out most of the second half.

7. Jason Campbell (2004, Tennessee)

Yards: 387

Score: Arkansas 30, Auburn 28

Auburn fell behind to the Razorbacks 27-0 at halftime but Nix and company fought back, ultimately falling short when a 52-yard field-goal attempt by Matt Hawkins was tipped.

Yards: 394Score: Auburn 49, Mississippi State 15

The ringing cowbells were no problem for Craig and the Tigers on this day as they jumped out to a big lead led by a monster game from the Auburn quarterback. The play I remember the most? Auburn was pinned in its own one-yard line when Craig dropped back and threw an absolute gem for a gain of about 50 yards.

3. Ben Leard (2001, Michigan)

Yards: 394

Score: Michigan 31, Auburn 28

Going up against Chad Henne, Anthony Thomas and the mighty Wolverines, Leard put on a show of his own in the 2001 Citrus Bowl. The Auburn quarterback finished 28-of-37 for 394 yards and three touchdowns to two interceptions as a last-minute comeback attempt just fell short.

2. Ben Leard (1999, Georgia)

Yards: 416

Score: Auburn 38, Georgia 21

The Bulldogs had no chance against Leard, Ronney Daniels and the Tigers as Auburn jumped out to a shocking 31-0 lead at halftime behind four first half touchdown passes by Leard.

1. Nick Marshall (2014, Alabama)

Yards: 456

Score: Alabama 55, Auburn 44

Nick Marshall is just a running quarterback, right? That isn’t what the Alabama secondary was thinking following this shootout between the two rivals. Marshall finished 27-of-43 for 456 yards and three touchdown as Auburn fell just short to the Crimson Tide.
