The 2020 college football season was perhaps the most joyless we’ve ever seen with several protocols and restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
But things are finally looking up. LSU sent out a message to students, faculty and staff this week, stating the university expects the “majority of campus activities to be back to normal” in time for the fall semester of 2021.
If this holds true, this will be the first truly normal semester students have had in over a year.
Of course, this is all dependent on how COVID-19 events continue to unfold, and LSU will continue to follow all state and CDC guidelines as it moves forward.
Here’s a look at the complete email sent from LSU.
If campus operates normally, we can reasonably expect to see football and other sports doing much of the same when we get to the second half of the year.
The majority of LSU’s sporting events this season have been limited to 25% capacity.
Tiger Stadium, which usually holds 102,000 fans was only able to have just over 25,000 in 2020. Basketball and baseball have had roughly 2,500 fans in the stands during the pandemic.
LSU’s 2021 football season is set to open on the road against UCLA on Sept. 4 in Rose Bowl Stadium.
The Tigers will play their spring game in roughly a month and a half on Apr. 17 in Tiger Stadium.
