Rockford cancels football game with Grand Haven after positive COVID-19 test - mlive.com

ROCKFORD – Rockford has canceled its Week 4 football game against Grand Haven after a confirmed positive COVID-19 test from a member of the team.

Rockford athletic director Cole Andrews confirmed with MLive Monday afternoon of the cancellation, citing a positive test from a player.

Andrews said the positive test was confirmed on Saturday, Oct. 3 and the announcement of the cancellation was made Monday afternoon.

The Rams (3-0) were scheduled to host Grand Haven (0-3) Friday in an OK Red matchup. Andrews said the Rams are expected to return to play next week when they face East Kentwood in Week 5.

Rockford is the latest school to have a football game affected by COVID-19. Several teams across the state have seen games canceled because of concerns with the virus.

In Week 1 of the Michigan high school football season, seven teams missed games due to COVID-19. That number increased to 12 teams in Week 2 and climbed to 19 teams after Week 3.

Grant, L’Anse Creuse North, Plainwell, Tecumseh, Galesburg-Augusta and Southfield A&T all canceled games last week due to potential exposure of the virus.
