Week 11 of the 2020 high school football season will be defined by one man.
Buddy Anderson is coaching his final game at Vestavia Hills. He’s been at the school for 49 years and been head coach for 43.

He is retiring from the state of Alabama with 10 years vested in the system. He and his wife will move to Tennessee to be closer to her family.

6:19 PM, First playoff casualty: St. Luke’s coach Ronn Lee tells me tonight that his team will not be able to participate in the Class 2A playoffs next week due to contact tracing from a positive COVID-19 test earlier this week. The Wildcats were scheduled to play at B.B. Comer in the first round. They also had to cancel the regular-season finale against Cottage Hill. It’s been an especially tough year for St. Luke’s, which had to quarantine the entire team for two weeks in August due to coronavirus concerns.
5:18 PM, In the house early: St. Paul’s completed a 10-0 regular season this afternoon with a 38-0 win over Vigor. The Class 5A second-ranked Saints and the Wolves played early due to power issues in Mobile. Jaylen Sulton scored a pair of touchdowns.
4:34 PM, Successful surgery: Ramsay NG and Alabama commit Tim Keenan III announced on social media on Thursday that he had successful surgery on his knee injury suffered two weeks ago in a win over Pleasant Grove. He will miss the remainder of the season for the No. 1-ranked Rams.
4:02 PM, Zeta’s aftermath: Hurricane Zeta affected high school football throughout the state. One of the most notable results was the cancellation of the 105-year rivalry between Thomasville and Clarke County, two areas ravaged by the storm and mostly without power. 3:00 PM, Spain Park shootout: The weekend started Thursday night with a wild shootout between Spain Park and Hueytown. The teams combined for 76 first downs before the Jaguars finally held on for a 63-63 victory -- IN REGULATION. Read all about the game.
