It was a fairly low-scoring affair through three quarters, but the Eagles were able to snatch a 25-20 win from the 49ers thanks to a late fourth-quarter surge that saw them score touchdowns on back-to-back plays.
It started with Carson Wentz delivering a 42-yard TD bomb to Travis Fulgham of all people. Fulgham was signed from the practice squad this week due to the team's lack of depth at wide receiver with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson and Jalen Reagor all out. His touchdown gave Philadelphia an 18-14 lead with 5:42 remaining.
On the ensuing 49ers driver, second choice quarterback Nick Mullens, starting in the absence of Jimmy Garoppolo, threw an interception to Alex Singleton, who ran it back for a touchdown. Suddenly, the Eagles were up 25-14.
Enter third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard, whom the 49ers drafted in the third round back in 2017. Beathard stepped right into rhythm, completing nine of his first 10 passes to lead a touchdown drive just before the 2-minute warning hit. That allowed San Francisco to use the stoppage, along with their two remaining timeouts, to get the ball back with 1:40 remaining at their own 12-yard line. Beathard continued to look poised, getting the 49ers down to the Eagles' 33-yard line. But alas, his Hail Mary towards Deebo Samuel was batted away in the end zone.
With the win, the Eagles (1-2-1) finally broke their winless streak and captured the lead in the putrid NFC East . And Wentz might finally be able to get a few of the town's critics off his back after a decent outing given the lack of weapons around him; he finished 18-of-28 passing for 193 yards, a touchdown and an interception off a pass tipped at the line, and also added 37 yards rushing and a TD on the ground.

11:32 p.m. — Eagles call their second timeout with 7 seconds remaining, it's 49ers ball, fourth and 10 at the Eagles' 33-yard line.
11:31 p.m. — Beathard spikes it with 17 seconds left, ball at the Eagles 33-yard line.
11:30 p.m. — Ooooh. Official timeout as Ruben Fowler, the umpire is down on the field. Game clock is reset to 34 seconds, ball on the Eagles 45-yard line.
11:27 p.m. — 49ers use their final timeout after getting the stop on third down. They get the ball back at their own 12-yard line, 1:40 remaining.
11:22 p.m. — Eagles recover the onside kick and hand the ball off to Clement. As we enter the 2-minute warning, Philadelphia has the ball and the lead, second and 9 at the San Francisco 48-yard line with 1:56 remaining.
11:18 p.m. — Call is overturned, but McKinnon is able to punch it in on third and goal from the 1. 2-point conversion is no good though, so the Eagles lead 25-20 with 2:02 to play. San Francisco has two timeouts left, plus the 2-minute warning.
11:15 p.m. — Nice work by Beathard of that drive: 9-of-10 passing for 80 yards, capped off with a 2-yard TD pass to Kendrick Bourne, though the play is under review.
11:08 p.m. — That'll do it for Mullens. C.J. Beathard now enters the game under center and completes consecutive passes to get a first down.
11:07 p.m. — PICK-SIX. On the first play of the drive, Mullens throws it straight to Alex Singleton, who runs it back to the end zone. Eagles lead 25-14 now with 5:42 remaining.
11:02 p.m. — After Jalen Hurts fumbles a snap for a 12-yard loss, Wentz throws a bomb down the right sideline to Travis Fulgham for a 42-yard TD. Eagles now lead 18-14 with 5:50 to play.
10:55 p.m. — Eagles go for it on fourth and 4 and convert as Wentz finds John Hightower on a slant. They have it first and 10 at the 49ers 27-yard line.
10:50 p.m. — FUMBLE. Eagles get the ball back as Mullens is stripped by Cre'Von LeBlanc and Malik Jackson recovers at the 49ers 42-yard line..
10:45 p.m. — Wentz is gobbled up in the backfield on third down and Philadelphia has to punt from its own end zone. San Francisco has the ball on its own 45-yard line, 10:44 left in the fourth quarter.
10:40 p.m. — Eagles are able to force a punt and get the ball back at their own 11-yard line, 12:41 remaining in regulation.
10:34 p.m. — 49ers end the third quarter with a big game as Mullens hits Kittle for the 10th time tonight. They'll have it, first and 10 at their own 46-yard line to start the fourth quarter, leading 14-11.
10:26 p.m. — San Francisco is able to put pressure on Wentz and force back-to-back incompletions on second and third down. Jake Elliott hits a 35-yard field goal with 55 seconds left in the third quarter, Eagles trail 14-11.
10:23 p.m. — Call is overturned, but Wentz gets the first down on fourth and 1 with a QB sneak.
10:19 p.m. — Wentz with a nice scramble on third and 9. Call on the field was a first down but it looks like it might be overturned. Line to gain is the 49ers 29-yard line.
10:10 p.m. — A nice opening drive is capped off with a third-and-goal TD pass from Mullens to Kittle. 49ers lead 14-8 with 8:26 remaining in the third quarter.
10:00 p.m. — We're back as the 49ers get the ball to start the second half.
9:46 p.m. — HALF: Eagles 8, 49ers 7. It's been a low-scoring affair so far.
9:44 p.m. — Eagles can't get much going, but a nice punt by Cameron Johnston pins the 49ers at their own 5-yard line with 1:03 to play in the half.
9:30 p.m. — Oof. A nice San Francisco drive gets into Philadelphia territory but ends as Mullens' pass is intercepted by Rodney McLeod. Eagles' ball at their own 27-yard line, 2:40 left to play in the half.
9:22 p.m. — A false start on third and one throws off the Eagles rhythm and they punt. 49ers have it at their own 20, 7:03 left in the half.
9:15 p.m. — 49ers had a good drive but stalled out. They're able to flip the field though with a good punt from Mitch Wishnowsky. Eagles have the ball at their own 12-yard line, 11:27 left in the half.

8:36 p.m. — Philladelphia finally gets a drive going, and then Wentz panicks as the pocket collapses, tries to throw it over the middle but it gets tipped and picked off. Play is currently under review.
8:30 p.m. — Not much better from Mullens; he completes one on third down after two errant throws, but it's short of the first down. That'll bring it to the first media timeout, Eagles' ball at their own 28-yard line.
8:27 p.m. — Well, not much going for the Eagles: two short runs, Wentz bounces a pass to Miles Sanders and they go three and out. Let's see if Nick Mullens can do any better.
