College football today: Week 5 updates, highlights, biggest moments and more - ESPN

Week 5 is here and we have a jam-packed slate of games.

So far this Saturday, there have already been a couple big wins. Georgia shut out Arkansas 27-0, and Michigan was feeling it against Wisconsin and beat the Badgers 38-17. But we've got plenty left in store for this first weekend of October. Ole Miss faces Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Cincinnati is visiting Notre Dame, and Baylor-Oklahoma State actually seems like it'll be a must-watch.

Check out all the results, reaction and revelry from throughout the land.

Scoring 40 on Alabama is generally a feat reserved for royalty. Of the 13 teams to do it in Nick Saban's 14-plus years in Tuscaloosa, five went on to either win or play for the national title, while others had either Johnny Manziel, Gus Malzahn's early-tenure Auburn magic or one of the most talented skill corps in recent college football history (2020 Florida).

Three others were Ole Miss. The Rebels went for 43 points in both 2015 and 2016, splitting a pair of nail-biters, and last fall, with former Saban offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin -- the co-author of Alabama's incredible mid-2010s identity shift -- in charge, they did the deed again. They were tied at 42-42 with maybe the greatest Crimson Tide team ever before finally succumbing 63-48. Kiffin learned everything Saban hated to try to defend during his time in Alabama, then used it all against him last year. Read more from Bill Connelly's Week 5 preview (ESPN+).

Play of the day

We don't even understand how Braylon Sanders hauled this in.

Life of a mascot

Uga has quite the nice sideline setup, and honestly, we're jealous.

Scene in the stands & sideline

Look who showed up to Notre Dame -- Joey Chesnut himself.

Two important questions: Who is she? Can we be friends?

USC legend LenDale White is roaming the Trojans' sideline this afternoon.

Speaking of that Tennessee trouncing ... nothing better than an in-the-moment sign.

Michigan just wants in on the fun.

Georgia fans have been going completely wild ever since kickoff against Arkansas, and it seems like they'll be hyped all game long with how things are going.

Just look at this sea of red!

It's all fun and games ...

Bonding over the things you hate.

Are you ready? We're ready. And it looks like Lane Kiffin is, too.

Arkansas has a knack for clever postgame tweets, but since the Razorbacks didn't even put any points on the board, this is all they had.

SMU just has great marketing is what we're taking away from this. Seizing the moment, if you will.

Michigan State coach Mel Tucker is certainly enjoying the Spartans being 4-0 heading into Week 5, and with MSU facing Western Kentucky, seems like it's going to get to 5-0 pretty easily (ESPN's Football Power Index gives the Spartans an 89.2% chance to win).

GameDay Antics

From winning the Ryder Cup to being the guest picker, it's a pretty good week for Harris English.

And Lee Corso's pick is ...

Lee Corso makes his headgear pick in the top-10 matchup between No. 8 Arkansas and No. 2 Georgia.

'Bachelor' takeover

Now, we all know there is a lot of crossover between college football and the Bachelor franchise. Oh, you don't? A quick rundown: Matt James, the most recent Bachelor, played football at Wake Forest. One of his teammates at Wake Forest was Tyler Cameron, who was on season 15 of "The Bachelorette."

It was just announced this week that ESPN's Jesse Palmer would be the next host of "The Bachelor." Palmer was once the Bachelor back in 2004, so it'll be interesting to see what perspective he brings into the show's 26th season.

Uniform updates

Ohio State has some fresh uniforms lined up for this weekend, and LeBron James is all about it.

Stanford is rocking a throwback look against Oregon.

And this is what the Ducks will be wearing against the Cardinal.

Want more on uniforms? Check this out.

NIL deal of the week

When your last name is Hamm, it only makes sense to sign a meat deal.

More must see

Is there anything that Chris Olave can't catch?

Khalil Shakir has some serious hops.

Good to see Darren Sproles back at K-State.

Never mess with Jalen Carter.

Not even exactly sure how Jordan Addison caught this.

play

0:29

Pittsburgh WR Jordan Addison falls to the ground, but somehow still manages to secure the catch.

And this form Jadan Blue is equally as impressive.

play

0:28

Jadan Blue makes a one-handed catch for a touchdown in the second quarter for Temple vs. Memphis.

Everyone loves a little trick play, especially something like this flea flicker from Michigan.

Now, Mizzou might have gotten run out of the building by Tennessee, but that doesn't take anything away from this 100-yard kick return TD.

Turn on the jets, Tyron Evans!

play

0:41

Tennessee's Tiyon Evans scores his second touchdown of the first quarter on a 92-yard run.

Miami and Virginia played on Thursday this week, and this touchdown from Brennan Armstrong to Dontayvion Wicks is quite spectacular. A little risky. But impressive nonetheless.

play

0:49

Brennan Armstrong throws an ill-advised pass into heavy traffic that is dropped by the defense and somehow ends up in the hands of Dontayvion Wicks for a 36-yard Virginia touchdown.
