Under Jimbo Fisher, the Texas A&M Football team was involved in the highest-scoring game in FBS college football history. That game happened in 2018 and was a product of slightly flawed college football overtime rules. To put things into perspective, the score was tied at 31-31 at the end of regulation.

Texas A&M’s game against Kent State could result in an entirely different type of scoring, mostly in favor of the Aggies.

This theory is almost entirely based on the fact that Kent State has, in recent years, put all of its eggs in the offense basket. Their defense has been… well, absolutely terrible. The Golden Flashes had the 15th-worst scoring defense in the country last season and only played MAC opponents.

An SEC team may have dropped 100 on them last season. Here’s why.

The Texas A&M Football team will look to replicate an offensive performance from Buffalo last season

Last year, the Kent State Golden Flashes were exposed defensively when they came up against Buffalo, who promptly dropped 70 points on them. You’re reading that right — a Kent State team that has virtually the same core roster allowed a MAC team to drop a 70-burger on its head.

Kent State does return all of their top tacklers from a year ago, but how does that really even benefit them? More specifically, why would you want to return the top players from a team that was so terrible on defense?

Buffalo did have a good offense, but they only played in seven games last season. Take out the 70-point performance against Kent State and you have a slightly above-average offense whose toughest opponent was either Ball State or Marshall.

Texas A&M, on the other hand, averaged 32.7 points per game last season, which was also slightly above average. The Aggies, on the other hand, earned this total against an all-SEC schedule and top-15 North Carolina. TAMU and Buffalo are difficult teams to compare, but you’re lying if you don’t think the Aggies would torch them offensively in a head-to-head.

Even more specifically, Kent State’s rushing defense is absolutely terrible. Specifically, Kent State allowed 262 rushing yards per contest, which was fifth-worst in the country. Again, they allowed this yardage total against MAC teams. This may be the worst rushing defense that Jimbo Fisher has ever seen in the entirety of his career and he’ll have the opportunity to face that unit at the perfect time.

For the immediate future, Texas A&M’s offense will be entirely on Isaiah Spiller’s shoulders. The preseason All-American is expected to be a first-round pick in 2022 and with an offensive line featuring four new starters, Texas A&M will rely heavily on their experienced runningback to get the offense going.

At the very least, the Texas A&M Football team will threaten their old record at some point in the game. They may have over 40 points by halftime. The only thing that could stop them is the fact that they’ll run out the clock by rushing the ball all game long.
