IU football receives commitment from highest rated recruit in program history - IndianaHQ

As the 15-month recruiting dead period ended, the Indiana football program has had another great week pushing the boundaries of the program.

This week, Tom Allen and the Hoosiers got their highest rated commitment in the history of the program with the class of 2023 in-state prospect Daeh McCullough committing to the Hoosiers. The national top-100, 6-2, 195 lb safety from Bloomington South recently told the Hoosiers that they were his number one destination, and just a few days later he ended up committing to play for Indiana.

The commitment of McCullough was and was not surprising at the same time for Indiana. On one hand, he is the son of the associate head coach of IU and the running backs coach Deland McCullough. Deland was recently hired on February 8, 2021 to take over as the running backs coach and associate head coach after spending 2018-2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs as their running backs coach. He was the running backs coach from 2011-2016 at Indiana as well.

The biggest surprise is how Tom Allen keeps managing to push the bar to higher and higher levels each year. Daeh is currently listed as the highest ranked and only top-100 recruit (#78 overall) to commit to the Hoosiers. He is the second best player in the state and the sixth highest ranked safety in the country.

Per 247Sports, Daeh has always been wanting to go to Indiana. It was during the early 2010s that Daeh discovered his love for the program and how he could see himself attending the university. They have always felt like a family to Daeh and he has shown his excitement for being a part of this program with his commitment to the program.

Daeh held many offers at top programs including Penn State, Michigan, Arkansas, and Florida, but ultimately, Indiana felt like home to him and led to his decision to stay in Bloomington.

Of note, Daeh has two older brothers that were highly rated recruits. His oldest brother, Deland, is currently at Miami (Ohio) as a defensive back and Dasan has committed to Ohio State as a member of the class of 2022. It is likely that Daeh and Dasan will be on the same field in a few years with their dad on the sideline coaching Indiana RBs.

With the latest major commitment of Daeh McCullough, Indiana now has two strong adds to their program for the class of 2023. Daeh joins WDE Denzel Moore, the No. 23 WDE in the country from Suwanee, GA. Now, the question is who will be the next big time commit for Indiana. Per IndyStar, Daeh has been talking to other players with offers to Indiana and spreading the word on what is going on in Bloomington. One of the most likely targets is class of 2022 CB James Monds III from Fort Pierce, FL who has had attention around him from the two current commits to IU, but the crystal ball predictions say otherwise at the moment. He is currently scheduled for an official visit on June 11.

The recruiting dead period is set to end on June 1st

Now, the focus continues to be on the class of 2022 as there is only one commitment from that year, 3-star ILB Kaiden Turner from Fayetteville, AR. Numerous prospects remain for this year that are interested in the Hoosier program as 19 are scheduled to have a official visit to the program in June.

As the college football world starts to reopen, it will be exciting to see where the program head as Tom Allen is aiming to further advance the program after a historic 2020 season.

Indiana is set to open its 2021 season at Iowa on September 4th.
