8-PLAYER SEMIFINALS
No. 2 Remsen St. Mary's 108, No. 5 Montezuma 94
In an amazingly entertaining and wild, record-shattering game that lasted a tad more than four hours, second-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s outlasted No. 5 Montezuma. The teams combined for 29 touchdowns and almost 1,500 yards of total offense, setting six single-game playoff records, including the 202 combined points.
“It’s always cool to be part of history,” said Remsen St. Mary’s quarterback Blaine Harpenau, who finished with 488 total yards and eight TDs. “We were looking up at the scoreboard like we might have broken a record. We found out we did it and it was like crazy. We just kept on piling on points.”
Montezuma QB Eddie Burgess set a state single-game record with 689 passing yards. Montezuma’s 744 total passing yards also is a new state mark. Trey Shearer hauled in a single-game record 20 receptions and finished with 389 receiving yards.

No. 8 Fremont-Mills 32, No. 1 Don Bosco 30
Seth Malcom rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns as Fremont-Mills ended defending champion Don Bosco's 22-game winning streak.
CLASS 3A SEMIFINALS
No. 2 Harlan 44, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 7
Brenden Bartley and Aidan Hall both returned interceptions for touchdowns as the Cyclones improved to 11-0. Teagon Kasperbauer completed 11 of 18 passes for 175 yards and two scores.
No. 8 North Scott 17, No. 1 Cedar Rapids Xavier 10 (OT)
For the second straight season, North Scott played Cedar Rapids Xavier’s spoiler.
This time it resulted in the Lancers’ first trip to the state finals.
Carter Markham hit Parker Ruth for a 7-yard touchdown in overtime, lifting eighth-ranked North Scott over No. 1 Xavier, 17-10.
Xavier didn’t get on the board for the first three quarters but finally scored with 11:11 left in the fourth. Jaxon Rexroth hit Jack Lux on an 11-yard swing pass for a TD, capping a 10-play, 69-yard drive and cutting the deficit to 10-7.
The Saints (10-1) forced the extra frame with a final drive to the North Scott 16. Lincoln Oakley nailed a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give Xavier another chance.
North Scott scored on its third play in OT, then its defense held, breaking up a last-ditch Xavier pass play at the goal line on fourth-and-goal from the 9.
