The one game on the Connecticut college football schedule that might have drawn the most buzz in 2019 would have been a showdown between Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut State and Ivy League-co champion Yale.
It appears as if the game will actually happen — in 2024 as the FBSschedules.com site is reporting that the programs will meet for the first time on Oct. 5, 2024 with Yale paying CCSU $10,000.
Yale’s upcoming non-conference schedules will include annual meetings with Holy Cross as well as two games with Mercer.
Central Connecticut’s upcoming schedules will feature matchups at UConn in 2022 and 2025, contests with Ivy League teams Columbia in 2020 and 2021, Brown in 2022 and 2023 and Dartmouth in 2024 and 2027. The most noteworthy entry in the Blue Devils’ upcoming non-conference games on the FBSschedules.com site is a 2021 contest at Miami (Fla.).
Central Connecticut had a perfect run through the NEC in 2019 to earn a spot in the FCS playoffs and finished with an 11-2 record. The Blue Devils were ranked 22nd and 23rd in the final two FCS national polls while Yale checked in at No. 24 and 25.
Yale capped off a 9-1 season with a thrilling come from behind win over Harvard to earn a share of the Ivy title with Dartmouth. Yale will open the 2020 season at Holy Cross on Sept. 19. The other non-conference games will be played at home against Lehigh on Oct. 3 and Richmond on Oct. 17. The Central Connecticut State game will mark the first time that the Bulldogs will face another Connecticut team in the regular season since a loss to UConn in 1998.
