CSU closes strength-and-conditioning facilities with resumption of spring football in doubt - The Denver Post

Colorado State athletic director Joe Parker spent a portion of his spring break Wednesday holed up in his Fort Collins office on the phone to discuss the ever-changing college sports landscape amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Our strength-and-conditioning centers within the athletic facilities are closed,” Parker said. “Sports medicine is operating, but we’ve informed students we want them to communicate on an appointment basis. We’re trying to limit the number of students who might be in those areas at any one time to probably five or less.”

The Rams football team had completed 7-of-15 scheduled spring football practices before an eventual cancellation of all spring sports.

The situation remains fluid with a March 29 moratorium on all Mountain West events. However, the CDC’s recommendation of limiting crowds to 50 people or less (extending into May) casts serious doubt on CSU’s ability to complete its spring football schedule.

“We’ll wait and see,” Parker said. “We still have eight (practices) on the books that could be available if we’re at a point in time where we could move in that direction.”

Parker added that academic resources continue to be available for CSU student-athletes, both in-person with social distancing protocols in place, and online learning options.
