West Virginia has been working in the Midwest to extend its football recruiting footprint, and on Friday that effort paid off with the commitment of Leo High School’s Landen Livingston.

A mid-June visitor to the Mountaineer campus, Livingston picked West Virginia out of a final quintet that also included Cincinnati, Iowa, Indiana and Purdue. WVU, which was able to snag the talented offensive line prospect from the in-state Hoosiers and Boilermakers, has also been making inroads in Illinois and Michigan under head coach Neal Brown.
A first-team All-Northeast 8 All-Conference selection as a junior, Livingston also earned a Top 50 spot on the Indiana Football Coaches Association team in 2020. Playing both guard and tackle for the Lions during his career, he exhibits excellent footwork and mobility, executing a number of pulls, traps and combination blocks while keeping good balance.
He finishes blocks with an edge of nastiness, often driving his opponent several yards downfield or out of the play, and capping a few with unceremonious pancakes. Playing on both sides of the line, he shows the versatility to play out of both stances, and looks particularly strong in identifying blocking targets when on the move.

In addition to his final five, Livingston had offers from upper-tier schools Air Force, Arizona State, Illinois, Michigan State and Minnesota. Bowling Green, Ball State, Central Michigan Marshall, Miami (OH), Toledo and Tulane were also on board with scholarship tenders.
Livingston is the fourth offensive line commitment, and the 14th verbal overall, in West Virginia’s football class of 2022. With no seniors on the 2021 roster, and only three scholarship juniors, the Mountaineer coaching staff is clearly committed to increasing competition in a group that showed improvement last year, but continues to look for more push and consistent execution up front.
Livingston joins Maurice Hamilton (6-4, 340 lbs.), Charlie Katarincic (6-5, 280 lbs.) and Sullivan Weidman (6-6, 300 lbs.) in what appears to be an offensive line group for 2022 that exhibits a good mix of size and athleticism.
