There are a lot of factors when it comes to winning football games. But nothing beats experience, most of the time.

Yes, coaching bona fides and talent are big factors as well, but more often than not, the teams that are younger struggle more and those who have time on task tend to be better.

Just look at Michigan’s recent teams. The 2016 and 2018 teams were loaded with experienced talent, whereas some of the other years saw younger players placed into prominent roles.

ESPN’s advanced analytics guru Bill Connelly put together a list of all the teams in college football, with transfers factored in, and determined who has the most returning production and who has the least.

Michigan beat the national average of 76.7% (and 2014-20 average of 62.6%) by having 78% of its talent coming back, which ranks the Wolverines at No. 57 nationally. But what about who they face on the gridiron? Ohio State is one of the least experienced teams in college football — could this be the year that the maize and blue break the sizable loss streak?

Obviously, it’s hard to bet they will, but still — here are where all the teams Michigan will face fare in terms of putting talent out there that’s seen the field before.
