I’m late on this post (not really) and missed the entire week of MACtion, but hopefully some of y’all stayed up last night to watch the ending of the Western Michigan vs Toledo game. If not, it was incredible. A terrible officiating call on a 4th-and-long play gave Toledo a 1st & Goal at the WMU 6 with just under three minutes to play. WMU lets Toledo score a TD to go up 10, they then score a TD with 45 seconds left, recover the onside kick, and score on a fake spike with 17 seconds left to win.
Football officiating karma is a beautiful thing.
There’s just one Thursday game this week as Colorado State is likely to be the recipient of Boise taking out some frustration from last week’s blowout loss to BYU.
The Iowa-Minnesota game should be good on Friday night, even if both teams are 1-2. ECU heads up to Cincinnati Friday to take on a Bearcats team that’s ranked 7th in the country. This would be very ECU to win that game after getting smoked last week by Tulane at home.
There are decent games spread out throughout all of Saturday, so enjoy a full day of college football before State rolls out the “Blood Moon” uniforms at 7:30pm.
It’s interesting to see how aligned the SP+ and Sagarin ratings are getting on most teams, including being identical for a handful of squads... USC, Colorado (nicccce), Oregon, Tulsa, UCLA, Oregon State. Actually kinda weird that all but one of those teams are from the PAC 12.
Two teams the ratings systems do not agree both happen to be from the ACC: Wake Forest and NC State. There’s a 53-spot difference for Wake and a 39-spot difference for the Wolfpack. Hopefully those teams play more to their Sagarin rankings this week and both pull out W’s.
Go football! Go Pack!
Rankings for SP+ Ratings and Sagarin Ratings listed, respectively, ahead of each team’s name. [Note: SP+ is now ranking the 127 teams that are scheduled to play this year. Sagarin is ranking all 257 FBS and FCS teams.]
