Iowa high school football state championships: Friday's scores, stats and more - The Gazette

It’s time to crown state champions as the 2020 Iowa high school football playoffs conclude this week at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

The championships concluded with three games Friday: Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 4A.

Find box scores and more coverage here as Ida Grove OABCIG (1A), Waukon (2A) and Ankeny (4A) claimed state titles.

Friday's state football scores

CLASS 1A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 1 Ida Grove OABCIG 33, No. 2 Van Meter 26

Iowa commit Cooper DeJean rushed for two touchdowns in the final 90 seconds as OABCIG (12-0) overturned a 26-18 deficit and won its second straight state title after taking the Class 2A crown last season.

DeJean ran for a 4-yard TD with 1:30 remaining and punched in the 2-point conversion to tie it at 26. Van Meter fumbled the ensuing kickoff and DeJean danced around multiple defenders on a sideline-to-sideline, 19-yard touchdown run to give the Falcons the lead.

DeJean finished with 73 yards rushing and 318 yards passing, completing 14 of 27 with three touchdowns and an interception. All three scores went to Easton Harms, who had eight catches 160 yards receiving.

Dalten Van Pelt had 239 yards rushing and two TDs for Van Meter (11-1).

CLASS 2A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 4 Waukon 28, No. 3 Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 14

Waukon (10-1) limited to Central Lyon/George-Little Rock (11-1) to 58 yards and zero points in the second half as it claimed its second state title in the last four years.

Creed Welch completed 6 of 14 passes for 169 yards and a TD and picked off three passes on defense for the Indians. Ethan O'Neill added 106 yards rushing and a touchdown and Brennan Sweeney scored on a 27-yard fumble return from a dropped lateral. Waukon led 16-14 at the break.

Quarterback Zach Lutmer led the Lions with 104 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

CLASS 4A CHAMPIONSHIP

No. 3 Ankeny 42, No. 1 Southeast Polk 14

Jase Bauer and Arland Bruce IV each ran for a pair of touchdowns as Ankeny (11-1) became Class 4A's first champion not named West Des Moines Dowling since its last title in 2012.

Bauer ran for 158 yards and also threw for 101 yards, including a 24-yard TD strike to Bruce, who had 91 yards on the ground and caught seven passes for 58 yards.

Jaxon Dailey threw for 157 yards and a TD for Southeast Polk (10-1) but was picked off three times.
