TAMPA, Fla. — A former University of Florida and Jefferson High School football standout has been murdered.
According to TMZ, Donald "Reche" Caldwell was shot and killed Saturday in Tampa. He was 41.
Caldwell's mother said he was ambushed while leaving his home to take his girlfriend out on a date. Multiple people "ambushed" Caldwell, who was shot multiple times, accordingto his girlfriend.
He died on the way to the hospital.
Caldwell was a standout quarterback at Jefferson High Scoll and played wide receiver at the University of Florida. He was a second-round draft pick of the San Diego Charges in the 2002 draft.
He played six seasons in the NFL, including stints with the New England Patriots and Washington Redskins.
