Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football made its spring schedule public on Sunday afternoon.
The Orange announced dates for the team’s NCAA-capped 14 practices until fifth-year head coach Dino Babers, as well as the end-of-session “Spring Football Saturday” and annual Pro Day:
Sunday, March 8
Tuesday, March 10
Thursday, March 12
Monday, March 23 (Pro Day)
Tuesday, March 24
Thursday, March 26
Saturday, March 28
Tuesday, March 31
Thursday, April 2
Saturday, April 4
Tuesday, April 7
Thursday, April 9
Saturday, April 11
Tuesday, April 14
Thursday, April 16
Saturday, April 18 (Spring Football Saturday)
It’s shaping up to be an eventful spring for the Orange. First-year defensive coordinator Tony White will officially begin installing the 3-3-5 scheme he learned from Rocky Long at San Diego State. The slightly later-than-usual start date this year gave White a few more days to teach the language and finer technique points to his defensive assistants. His unit returns just four starters.
On the other side of the ball, first-year offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert receives his first opportunity to tweak the multiple, hurry-up offense that Babers installed four years ago. Bolstered system familiarity throughout the offensive staff, including Mike Lynch moving from co-OC to running backs coach, could quicken the learning curve for new material.
Position battles are expected to heat up on both sides of the ball, including at wide receiver -- following Trishton Jackson’s decision to leave early for the NFL -- and linebacker.
It remains unclear where Syracuse’s final session of the spring, “Spring Football Saturday,” will be held. The event’s start time and format are also yet to be determined.
SU’s Pro Day will offer the program’s outgoing players a chance to impress NFL scouts in a comfortable environment. The four players who attended the NFL Scouting Combine -- Jackson, Sterling Hofrichter, Kendall Coleman and Alton Robinson -- will look to build on their performances while a host of other outgoing seniors have been training in preparation for that moment since the 2019 season ended.
