Ohio State football players are getting NIL sponsorship deals from all over the country. How will this affect their play on the field this Fall?

NIL is here and it is here to stay folks. Ohio State football players have gotten sponsorships from all over the country. Sevyn Banks got one from Raising Canes. Nicholas Petit-Frere got one from a resume/CV writing company. They are coming from companies that are all shapes and sizes.

What does that mean for these players’ play on the field? Could this somehow negatively hurt their ability to play their best? I think it actually has the opposite effect. I think players will play better because they want to get an NIL deal and get as much as they can.

Playing well and being one of the most visible players on the field is how you can achieve that. Brands want to sponsor players that are well-known and have a large following. There’s no better way to achieve such a thing than to play well on the field and make true impact plays.

This is especially true for a player playing somewhere like Ohio State. Somewhere like that is extremely visible in the public eye because they play on national TV every game. Players want to capitalize on that fame by playing well and getting sponsorship deals that way.

I’d be shocked if NIL somehow worsened the play on the field. These kids still want to compete for championships and still want to win every game. The only way to achieve those goals is by playing as hard as you can and play the best you can every single time you take the field.

Ohio State is well-positioned to win a national title this year. Fans that think NIL distracts from that need to take a step back and re-evaluate their thought process. It may in fact make them more likely to win all of their games.
