Decisions, Decisions...Decisions - Washington Football Team 2021 Free Agents - Hogs Haven

When the new league year opens in March, the Football Team will have to make some tough decisions on pending free agents. We should have plenty of cap space to take care of our own, but just who does this staff see as priorities?

The good thing here is there are not a lot of big-name guys on this list, so making those big decisions, and likely large commitments, should be a bit easier then in previous years.

Below is a look at our pending free agents for 2021.

The List:

Brandon Scherff

Ryan Kerrigan

Ronald Darby

Kevin Pierre-Louis

Reuben Foster

Fabian Moreau

Mychal Kendricks

Ryan Anderson

David Sharpe

Lamar Miller

Jared Norris

Jeremy Sprinkle

Dustin Hopkins

Nick Sundberg

Kyle Allen(ERFA)

Cam Sims(ERFA)

Robert Foster(RFA)

Danny Johnson(RFA)

The Priorities:

Brandon Scherff - There is only one player who would be a candidate for a tag, and that’s Scherff. Look for the team to use either the franchise or transition tag if a long-term deal can’t be reached. Then, work like heck to get that deal done sometime before the deadline.

Ronald Darby - Darby, just 27, played very well in Del Rio’s defense this past year. The biggest hurdle he cleared was remaining healthy throughout the season. As we saw, and have seen in the past, when he can remain healthy, he’s a player! I’d offer him a three year deal worth between $8-10M per year.

Kyle Allen - Allen would be an absolute bargain as an ERFA, and as long as his rehab from a nasty ankle injury is on track, I hope the team brings him back to compete this summer.

Cam Sims - Sims showed he has a “little something” in 2020, hauling in a career best 32 receptions for 477 yards and a touchdown. Like Allen, he is also an ERFA, and keeping him around should be a priority. He could slot in nicely as the fourth or fifth option.

The Question Marks:

Reuben Foster - Foster, who is still just 27, tops this list, and for good reason. If healthy, he could be a major factor in this defense void of talent at linebacker.

Ryan Kerrigan - There are many of us who would love to see Kerrigan retire a member of The Football Team - but this is a business, and being that he’s no longer a starter here, he’d have to agree to a very team-friendly deal. It’s unlikely he’d do so, as he wants the opportunity to be a starter somewhere, and I believe he and his agent could find that somewhere on the open market.

Dustin Hopkins - Hopkins had an up and down 2020. It seems this has been the story of his career, but if you take a deep dive into the numbers, you’ll see his accuracy throughout his career has been pretty good. The part that wants to make you rip your hair out with him, is the yips he seems to get on anything over 40 yards...and of course the untimely misses in short attempts - both on field goals and extra points.

Kevin Pierre-Louis - Pierre-Louis started the season on fire, battled some injuries throughout, and ended with a slow smolder. He has talent and athleticism, but we need and expect better play from our linebacker position. I’d consider him returning on a one-year incentive-laden contract.

Danny Johnson - He showed a little something as a kick returner. I don’t think that’s enough to keep him around, but I wouldn’t hate it.

Fabian Moreau - I don’t dislike Moreau, but it was clear he fell out of favor with the staff. He never quite lived up to the billing here, and I assume a fresh start for the former Bruin is in the cards.

Mychal Kendricks - The insider trading scandal may come back to get him, but when he played, albeit in a limited role later in the season, there were times he flashed.

Don’t Ever want to see you in Burgundy and Gold again

Jeremy Sprinkle - This man drops more passes than he catches. Don’t let the door hit your ________ on the way out!

Ryan Anderson - Anderson may have been one of the most disappointing second round picks in a long time...and that’s saying a LOT!
