Oregon will now appear in the title game after COVID issues with the North Division champion, the University of Washington, will prevent the Huskies from representing the division in the game.
As for Colorado, it is now in a wait-and-see mode if there is another cancelation within the league involving an opponent it hasn't yet played for a replacement game this weekend.
UPDATE: CU athletic director Rick George issued the following statement Monday afternoon on CU's third game this year being canceled:
"We are very proud of our football student-athletes' commitment and resiliency throughout this season," George said. "Our student-athletes have done all that we have asked of them in following our protocols and procedures to ensure we were able to play every game on our schedule. We are disappointed to have another game canceled. We are not considering any non-conference opponents for this weekend."
The Buffaloes (4-1) were scheduled to play Oregon in Los Angeles on Saturday, as the division runner-ups were going to be in the city in case late COVID issues arose with either division champion and a late replacement could have occurred. As it turned out, Washington, which had issues last week that canceled its game with Oregon, determined Monday that it would neither have the minimum 53 scholarship student-athletes available nor the minimum number of scholarship student-athletes at a position group as a result of a number of positive CIVID cases and contact tracing protocols.
