Fantasy Football Rankings Week 10, 2021: Proven model says start Carson Wentz, sit Jalen Hurts - CBS Sports

It's important not to overreact to recent performances when finalizing your Week 10 Fantasy football rankings. In Weeks 7 and 8, the San Francisco 49ers held the Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Bears to just 295 combined passing yards. However, they've given up the fourth-most Fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season, and a Colt McCoy-led offense lit up the 49ers for 282 passing yards last week in their loss to Arizona.

The Atlanta Falcons held the New York Jets to 166 passing yards ahead of their bye in Week 6, only to allow 281 to the Dolphins following their week off. Knowing when a matchup is more than what it seems is the key to making the best Week 10 Fantasy football picks. Before you lock in your Week 10 Fantasy football lineups, be sure to check out the Week 10 Fantasy football rankings from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

When it comes to ranking players, SportsLine's model beat human experts in Fantasy football for the past several seasons especially when there were big differences in ranking. Over the course of a season, that could literally be the difference between winning your league or going home emptyhanded.

Last week, the model was extremely high on Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, saying he'd finish as a top-10 player at his position. The result: Herbert threw for 356 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 14 yards and another score against the Eagles. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on their way to a huge week.

Now, the model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, has revealed its Fantasy football rankings for Week 10 of the 2021 NFL season. Head to SportsLine now to see them.

Top Week 10 Fantasy football picks

One player the model is high on this week: Colts quarterback Carson Wentz. The Colts are trying to claw back into the NFL playoff picture and can get to .500 this week with a win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags are coming off of their best performance this season after intercepting the Bills' Josh Allen twice and sacking him four times. Allen still finished with 264 passing yards and quarterbacks have completed 72 percent of their passes against Jacksonville this season.

Wentz is coming off of the second-best game of the season, throwing for 272 yards and three touchdowns last Thursday against the Jets. Wentz's numbers this season have tracked similarly to his stats from 2019, when he threw for a career-high 4,039 yards with 27 touchdowns. The Colts' defense has been inconsistent against the pass as well, opening the door for a sneaky shootout. Most scenarios end with Wentz putting up big numbers again this week, and that's why the model projects he will finish ahead of quarterbacks like Derek Carr, Matthew Stafford and Kyler Murray.

And a massive shocker: Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who's thrown for 1,981 yards and 11 touchdowns while also rushing for 494 yards and five scores, stumbles big-time and doesn't even crack the top 12 at his position. Hurts has thrown multiple touchdown passes four times this season, but he's struggled in recent weeks. In fact, Hurts has thrown one or zero touchdown passes in four of his last five games. He's also failed to record a rushing touchdown in his last three contests.

Now, Hurts and the Eagles will face off against the Broncos, one of the NFL's stingiest defenses. Denver is giving up just 17.0 points per game this season, which ranks second in the league. Plus, the Broncos have given up just one passing touchdown to opposing quarterbacks in two of their last four games at home. With such a tough matchup on Sunday, Hurts is a player to consider putting on the bench in Week 10.

How to set Week 10 Fantasy football rankings

The model is also calling for a surprising quarterback you aren't even thinking about to finish in the top 10 of its Fantasy football rankings. This pick could be the difference between winning big and going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.

So who should you start and sit this week? And which surprising quarterback could lead you to victory?
