Free-agent offensive linemen the Washington Football Team could target.
The dominant defensive line and the emergence of complementary offensive weapons like Antonio Gibson and Logan Thomas were two of the main reasons the Washington Football Team made it to the post-season in 2020. But to me, the biggest reason for the team’s success was the relative health of the offensive line.
After the early-season switch from an ineffective Wes Martin to Wes Schweitzer at left guard, that line was almost entirely intact for the entire season. The only other change came around the midpoint when starting left tackle Geron Christian was lost. He was replaced by Cornelius Lucas, who, as some of us had been arguing, should have been starting all along.
The fact that Morgan Moses, Brandon Scherff, Chase Roullier, Wes Schweitzer, and Cornelius Lucas were able to play the overwhelming majority of snaps during the team’s second-half surge was a stroke of enormous good fortune. After witnessing what multiple injuries did to the offensive lines of both Philadelphia and Dallas in 2020, Washington is well aware it cannot count on such luck again.

The Washington Football Team is especially susceptible to injuries along the offensive front because their depth is razor-thin. When Scherff and Lucas had to miss short periods in the second half of the season, their back-ups — Wes Martin and David Sharpe — constituted a serious drop-off.
In short, the Washington Football Team cannot go into the 2021 season without continuing to bolster their offensive line. Injuries will catch up with them at some point, and it could prove disastrous.
Fortunately, this is a good year for linemen – especially highly-coveted left tackles – in the draft. Assuming Washington stands pat and ends up drafting at 19, they will almost certainly have a very strong prospect like Samuel Cosmi or Christian Darrisaw available. If they ask me – and so far they have not – I would draft a player like this.
But even if they do select an offensive lineman early, they will need to bring in multiple linemen via free agency to solidify the line.
Here are the players I would be targeting.
