Following former Kansas football OC Brent Dearmon’s departure, the program should start making up their minds on someone to fill the role.
Kansas football has a vacancy on their coaching staff and one that most fans weren’t necessarily expecting either. Regardless, now that Dearmon is out of the picture, Kansas needs to fill this spot before it’s too late.
Head coach Les Miles has expressed his disappointment and acknowledgment of the decision. While Dearmon’s decision was recent, the program should be getting the wheels turning on a new hire as soon as possible.
With the lack of proper off-season time Kansas saw this past year, it’s obvious they’re wanting to get to work right away. This should be a major concern for the coaching staff, as the more time they can spend with athletes on the field, the better it will be in the long run.
A few names of coming into the conversation for a replacement, but the name that has been getting the most excitement has been Ed Warinner. Warinner spent a few years with Kansas back when former head coach Mark Mangino was running the show, and surely fans would love to see someone like that come back around.
Ed has quite a bit of experience in college football outside of Kansas, his most recent time being spent at Michigan in the Big Ten. The real question is whether or not Warinner would consider returning to Lawrence, as the program has seen a strong decline since he was last on the sidelines at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
It’s obvious that the decision is going to have to come soon, but Kansas should pay attention to experience. Whoever takes over the job should be someone they’ll expect to devote a strong amount of time to. The offensive roster is already in a tough spot going into the off-season, so finding a solid hire might make us all breathe a little easier.
