College football teams on the rise in 2021 - 247Sports

You hear first-year coaches or those in the infancy of a new job say it all the time — a culture change is top priority in hopes of reversing fortunes or maintaining superiority within a college football program. Several times during a commendable showing in his first campaign, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin said playing with confidence offensively was key in the Rebels believing they would be in every game this fall.

“Lane is going to be entertaining, he’s Lane Kiffin,” one opposing coach said during the summer before the Rebels finished 5-5 with a win over nationally-ranked Indiana in the bowl game. “They’re going to score points, they’re going to embarrass your defense sometimes, but how consistent can they become? How legit can they recruit? He’s the right guy for that culture, but is that culture ever going to produce a consistent winner?”

The recent contract extension for Kiffin shows Ole Miss is doing everything in its power to ensure that culture does produce an annual winner and is giving its coach time to build and compete in the nation's toughest division. But Ole Miss isn't the only program on the verge of national relevance each and every weekend.
