Three UCF football players and at least one from Florida State have tested positive for COVID-19.
UCF announced their positive tests Tuesday. All three are isolating themselves for two weeks. They’ll be monitored daily and will receive meals through contact-free deliveries, UCF said in a release.
The three players were among 60 tested as voluntary workouts were allowed to begin earlier this month. Contact tracing is being conducted to see who those players interacted with. UCF said the cases have been reported to the Orange County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Health is providing further guidance.
“Our top priority is to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes,” athletic director Danny White said in a release. “We will do everything necessary to support the student-athletes under our care on campus.”
FSU confirmed that at least one of its players has tested positive for the illness. The Seminoles would not release a specific number, because it’d be easy to identify the players who tested positive, which would be a violation of health privacy laws.
No Gators have tested positive for COVID-19 during their return-to-campus protocols, but two previously had the illness, Florida officials said earlier Tuesday.
