Auburn has had an array of types of quarterbacks from straight drop-back passers such as Patrick Nix, multiple threats such as Nick Marshall and, of course, the super-beast that was Cam Newton in the 2010 national title season.

Yet all of those guys had arms — in the case of Brandon Cox, a left arm — that could find receivers and put up yards and points on the board. But who has had the best passing season in Auburn history?

We take a look at the top 10 passing performances in a season by a Tiger quarterback.

Yards: 2,324

Someone who doesn’t get the credit they deserve, Cox was a solid three-year starter for the Tigers, putting together his best year in 2005. He’s fourth in program history with 42 career touchdown passes.

9. Nick Marshall (2014)

Yards: 2,532

Who said he was just a runner? Marshall put up a lot of yards through the air in his second and last season on the Plains.

8. Bo Nix (2019)

Yards: 2,542

Nix did all of this as a freshman, almost eclipsing what his father did as a senior.

7. Patrick Nix (1995)

Yards: 2,574

It wasn’t his best season record-wise as a starter, but Nix was able to shred defenses in 1995.

6. Pat Sullivan (1970)

Yards: 2,586

On his way to winning the Heisman Trophy the next season, Sullivan showed off his arm for the Tigers.

5. Jason Campbell (2004)

Yards: 2,700

Maligned for much of his career, Campbell put it all together in his senior season and led the Tigers to an undefeated campaign.

4. Jarrett Stidham (2018)

Yards: 2,794

The only signal-caller to make this list twice, Stidham’s junior campaign was considered a downer after the year before but he still put up good numbers.

3. Cam Newton (2010)

Yards: 2,854

Defenses had to pick their poison when it came to Newton as he also led the Tigers in rushing touchdowns (30) that season, still a program record.

Yards: 3,158

The transfer from Baylor was the talk of the SEC after coming in and leading the Tigers to wins over both No. 1 Georgia and No. 1 Alabama in the span of three weeks, helping Auburn reach the SEC Championship Game.

1. Dameyune Craig (1997)

Yards: 3,277

Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Craig carried the entire Auburn offense on his shoulders (and right arm) in 1997, leading the Tigers to the SEC Championship Game.
