Three players with Alabama football roots are first-team All-Pro selections for the 2020 season.
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (Alabama), Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry (Alabama) and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill (West Alabama) are members of The Associated Press All-Pro Team for the 2020 NFL season.
Henry led the NFL with 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns on 378 rushing attempts in 2020 to earn his first first-team selection. Last year, when Henry also led the NFL in rushing yards, he was a second-team pick behind the Carolina Panthers’ Christian McCaffrey.
In his third NFL season, Fitzpatrick was a first-team All-Pro for the second straight year. In 2020, Fitzpatrick had 79 tackles, four interceptions, 11 passes defended, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for the Steelers.
Hill received his third first-team All-Pro selection. He made the team as a rookie in 2016 as a kick returner, then returned in 2018 as a wide receiver. In 2020, Hill caught 87 passes for 1,276 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Henry received 47 of the 50 All-Pro votes at running back, with the other three going to the New Orleans Saints’ Alvin Kamara.
Fitzpatrick tied for second in the safety voting with the Arizona Cardinals’ Budda Baker. Each received 18 votes, only one fewer than the top safety, Tyrann Mathieu of the Chiefs.
Hill was the No. 3 wide receiver with 24 votes, behind the Green Bay Packers’ Davante Adams, who had 49, and the Buffalo Bills’ Stefon Diggs, who had 48.
Three players from Alabama high schools and colleges earned second-team All-Pro recognition:
· Indianapolis Colts center Ryan Kelly (Alabama) tied with the Detroit Lions’ Frank Ragnow for the second-team spot behind the Packers’ Corey Linsley. Linsley received 18 All-Pro votes, and Kelly and Ragnow received eight apiece.
· Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley (Alabama) got one All-Pro vote, but that was enough to tie him for the sixth position and place as a second-team selection. Behind the three first-team wide receivers, the Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins received 21 votes, the Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson received five and the Bills’ Cole Beasley and Seattle Seahawks’ DK Metcalf joined Ridley with one.
· Packers outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith (Greenville) joined the Chicago Bears’ Khalil Mack as the second-team edge rushers. The first-team spots went to Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt, with 47 votes, and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, with 36. Mack received six votes, and Smith got four.
Seven other players with Alabama football roots also received votes in the All-Pro balloting:
· James Bradberry (Pleasant Grove, Samford) of the New York Giants received one vote at cornerback.
· Zach Cunningham (Pinson Valley) of the Houston Texans received one vote at linebacker.
· Rodney Hudson (B.C. Rain) of the Las Vegas Raiders received five votes at center.
· Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Alabama) of the Baltimore Ravens received two votes at cornerback.
· Ben Jones (Bibb County) of the Tennessee Titans received two votes at center.
· Braden Smith (Auburn) of the Indianapolis Colts received five votes at right offensive tackle.
· Quinnen Williams (Wenonah, Alabama) of the New York Jets received one vote at interior defensive lineman.
Two players were unanimous selections for the 2020 team – Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
