A former Alabama football player passed away, the program confirmed via social media Tuesday.
Grant Hill, an offensive lineman from 2013-14, died in recent days. He was 26. Hill’s death was first reported on social media by Aaron Suttles of The Athletic.
“Grant Hill was a wonderful teammate and friend,” a Twitter post from the official Alabama football page reads. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this devastating time.”
Further details on Hill’s death were not immediately available.
The Huntsville High School product came to Tuscaloosa as the No. 61 prospect in the 2013 class, according to 247Sports. He appeared in five games as a true freshman and seven more as a sophomore before taking what Nick Saban termed “medical leave” during spring practice in 2015. He didn’t return to the team but was listed among former players who earned their degree from UA in 2017.
Hill saw considerable action against Kentucky as a true freshman in 2013, earning praise from left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.
“Grant, he’s a man-child,” Kouandjio said at the time. “He’s ready. He’s ready to go in there,” Kouandjio said. “He might not be here for too long so you might as well put him in there.”
Hill is the third former Alabama player from the Saban era to pass away in the past year. Linebacker Rowdy Harrell (2009-12) was killed in a car wreck last November while defensive lineman Lorenzo Washington (2005-09) died in February.
